The main purpose of the centres is to support the work of teachers and trainers. In order to fulfil their purpose the Youth Centres provide different kinds of services, such as organize camp schools, nature and activity camps, training, meetings, family and recreation holidays as well as youth activities. The centres aim at offering the children opportunities for personal success and collective experiences which will support the growth of the youngsters and take into consideration the goals of the curriculum and youth education. The Youth Centres function as coordinators of international youth activities and as meeting places for such operations. They offer a suitable environment for practical training in the fields of youth work and school teaching as well as for national and international volunteer work. Together with municipalities and youth workshops, the centres develop activation and rehabilitation courses to support the growth of youngsters. The centres play an important role in the national service network of preventive anti-drug activities. The centres are involved in international youth activities through e.g. The European Youth Exchange Network PLATFORM and The International Award Programme in Finland. These services are carried out in the high-level centres with accommodation, meals, meeting and training facilities, sports facilities and appropriate equipment for physical exercise and various hobbies.
